“To most of us, heroes remain in textbooks. Why give a fuck?”

This was one of the exhibits that made me think and really had an impact on me. I rarely read the whole write-up for the exhibit theme, but this one got me really curious so I ended up reading everything. Filipinos do not have a national hero - this was the opening line. Sadly, it is true. The great Jose P. Rizal was proclaimed by the Americans, not by the Philippine Government. Even so, these “heroes” we all know just came out from those textbooks we’re only required to read in school. We get to read or google about them when we need them for projects, posters, and some. Check out the works of over 130 artists doing their own take on the soon to be obsolete postcards. It may be out of style, but who said postcards can’t be a patriotic art canvas? ☺

Oh and on the lighter note, I really love how witty and brutally honest the works are! A stinging satire on some of them which makes it really funny and creative! You have to agree on some of them - check it out! ☺

These were the 130 artists who worked on the exhibit. Bet you can’t read them lol haha sorry! Btw, I was with my Painting block mates this time. We watched a movie before this haha! Forever my art buddies! ☺

9th March 12

Another late post! I was thinking if I’m still going to post this, but I swear this should be the last time I’d be posting an event post that’s like two months ago. I have to quit that habit and make time for everything! School work has been dragging me down but I told myself how I wouldn’t let it take it’s toll on me. Besides, art is all we’re here for! ☺

I was with my Visual Communication block mates this time! I miss them - well, not like we’re not seeing each other but plates have been on our way ever since. Anyway, this exhibit was held at Light and Space Contemporary. It’s really a nice place for an art exhibit - though the only con I see is how far that place is. Fairview pare, so far naman the view! Loljk! Anyway, there were two exhibits featured: Archie Geotiona’s Isa Pang Chickenjoy, andFuck Art Let’s Dance! I haven’t heard of the artists who joined but the art’s very contemporary and modern. Maybe they’re about my age range. Check it! ☺

Fuck Art Let’s Dance 2! I really have no idea what it was going to be up to, because I only knew two people from the list - and they’re both fashion enthusiasts or designers. Lol I’ve no idea haha! The exhibit was really modern for me. I kinda hope there was an explanation for the theme! Though it reminded me of my childhood. Haha!

Finally saw a daring performance art in a exhibit. It was the highlight! Apparently, the model was one of my block mate’s friends and he told us he was doing that pose for hours now. Talk about dedication! It was also well put up, including that silver paper sculpture above. Kudos for this art work! Forgot who made it haha!

Oh, and I also saw some bloggers that night. I wasn’t sure of who they were but some were familiar to me! One of them was Paul Jatayna - couldn’t say hi because I wasn’t sure, but if you’re reading this - hi Paul haha! Fairview was a far place, so we decided to chill right after. More nights like these! ☺

8th March 12

This was the exhibit next to the previous one I posted (ArtInformal: Pulp Fiction) I was with another set of Fine Arts friends - I was with my former Painting block, Block Y! I knew I had to go to this exhibit because Camille informed me about it a month before the opening (yeah she’s always updated with art events haha!) I knew the artist even before this exhibit because I remember his style - full of splatters, contrast, that black-yellow-red color scheme and a bit dry and rough on the paint brush. Not my style, but he definitely changed my mind! It’s Dave Lock, people! ☺

 

I was interested in going because I was always curious about his works. Honestly, I find his works a bit too gory for me. But then, I got used to it and I started admiring it when Dave started to talk about the theme and concept of the exhibit. (Oh, and I like those two head sculptures above haha! It’s very lovely!)

As I remember it, the artist stated how people were always curious about what death feels like. Yeah, that’s all I remember =)) But I do think that he wanted to show his viewers what death feels like by the looks of his paintings. I personally see agony and wrath, and I do feel that way whenever I look at his art works! Am I right, Sir Dave?

Above sketch is one of my favorites! Damn, those details. I don’t usually use pen as a medium but I shall practice! 

A mannequin full of random lines and doodles. I’ve seen a lot of these (that white plastic model full of doodles) but he was successful on this one! I went by every inch of the mannequin’s body just to look at his doodles haha! If only I had the money… you know it! ☺

And this installation, is the highlight of the entire exhibit! Yeah I sat on it lol! I could totally connect what I just said earlier about his concept. Since people are curious about what death feels like, I could say this installation was definitely successful! I felt that near death experience while sitting on that chair lol. I know it’s properly put up but those are knives! Imagine those falling at you :o Well done, sir! You gave us chills haha!
